Summer Has Arrived!

"No go school"... is how Mehandis describes summer vacation, and he is right! School let out last week Thursday and we have since enjoyed a road trip, music and lots of play time.

Our first day of "no go school", we packed up the car and drove 7 hours to Bloomington, Indiana. My parents are staying there for 9 weeks while my dad has daily cyclotron visits for proton therapy. The 5 of us enjoyed touring around Bloomington by foot and car. We went to the pool, strolled around the square, enjoyed beverages at an outdoor cafe and played baseball at Indiana University's campus. It is a gorgeous campus with a water fountain that Mehandis REALLY wanted to climb into.

All that fun wore Mehandis out... as you can see him sleeping through lunch at my parents apartment.

We are slowing building up Mehandis's repertoire of songs to include not only Footloose and Bon Jovi, but other Hair Bands of the '80's. Below he is rocking out to GNR's "Paradise City".

I admit that I enjoy rocking out to these songs as well... as our neighbors can attest to. After singing "along" with Mehandis, with the windows open, one of the guys next door asked Michael if I am offering vocal lessons.

We have many pretend adventures to church, Daddy's office, shopping and going to the "Muffin Man" for donuts. Here Mehandis is simply pretending to be going home... "Come on Elmo, go to our home", as he says it. A pretty great place to be I think.

Hints of Summer!

Summer is coming! Despite our recent donning of sweaters, the threat of frost at night and days when the thermometer doesn't get past the 50's... I have already seen the signs of summer.

1. My calendar says only 3 more days of school.

2. Michael's sail boat is back in the water.

3. It is light outside from 4:45 until 8:45

4. We are tending to go barefoot pretty frequently.

5. Picnics and eating on the porch are occurring at least 3 times a week.

6. The pool is open!

7. Laundry can wait until the weekend.

8. Already needed to buy a new pack of swim diapers.

9. Sunglasses and sunscreen are becoming a necessity.
10. The calendar is getting booked up with camping trips, road trips, swim lessons, play dates and other summery goodness :)
